Wow. That’s all I can say, wow.
One year ago today I sat in my Freshman dorm room scrolling through Pinterest and made a joke to my roommates about how I should totally start a blog. They jumped on board and encouraged me to get it started and that is when I started Dani Dearest!
Today it is the 1 year blog-anniversary (blogiversary?) of Dani Dearest and I am in awe. In just one year I have found a great support group of amazing bloggers from all over the world, gotten this little blog up to 100,000 pageviews per month, somehow convinced 1,170 people to like me enough to want to receive every new post straight to their e-mail inboxes, and I’ve even begun to get paid for some of the things I post here. Crazy, right?
In celebration of this momentous occasion (ok I sound like I’m my English professor..) I have a surprise in store!
I have teamed up with an amazing brand as well as an Etsy shop recently created by one of my blogging friends to bring to you a giveaway to celebrate my blog’s birthday! Stay tuned for that at the end of the most.
Right now, let’s take a cheesy trip down memory lane and take a look at some big milestones in the year behind us:
September 3rd, I started this blog! Posted some super cheesy things such as a Freshman dorm room tour, a how to on making a t-shirt into a tank top, and a guide on how to make a paint sample covered wall! They were mainly focused on my Freshman year adventures with my roommates.
I also began my “15 Goals for 15 Weeks of a Semester” post which I have continued every semester since then.
I believe this was the month in which I was accepted into the Her Campus Blogger Network. Becoming a part of this community was a big step in making me become more serious about my blogging!
In this month I also wrote multiple posts about college and organization, one of which was my How I Use My Planner post, which is still my 2nd most popular post to date!
In November I hosted a little Blogging Secret Santa event with another blogger that was actually a lot of fun. I got a cute mug in the mail and loved it. I began my “Pits & Peaks” posts which highlighted the good and bad parts of each week every Friday.
This month was a big one for me. I took the big step and bought my own hosting! Then I moved from danidearest.wordpress.com to danidearest.com! At the time I was getting 6,000 pageviews per month and I was incredibly proud of myself.
In this month I posted quite a bit of holiday dorm decor ideas that became pretty popular on Pinterest.
In January I got my first chance to work with a brand, even though it wasn’t paid, it left me super excited! I also received a jar of Reeses’ Spreads from Influenster and I am still in love with it..
I also paired up with my roommate Tori and we took a video of our roommates and us all answering cheesy questions about eachother in a roommate questionnaire game.
In January I posted my single most popular post so far: Preparing for New Classes. I still get thousands of views on this post each day!
In February I slowly began to lose my blogging train and slowed down my posting a bit. I wrote about decorating your dorm with washi tape and creating your own notebook dividers to save money. I also realized that my photography really needed a step up…
In March I only posted 4 times, which was a huge lapse from what I had previously done. There isn’t really much to be said about March…
In April I was crazy busy in my school and social and work lives. So busy, in fact, that I only posted once on Dani Dearest! I know, I’m in shock too. I like to pretend that April never happened on this blog.
I was way too overwhelmed working a ton of jobs, preparing for finals and projects, just having launched my own Her Campus chapter and trying to figure it all out on my own, and working a professional theatre production of Mary Poppins.
In May, I posted twice. I was dealing with finals, school ending, moving out, and starting back on the grind of working everyday. I was also stocking up on posts to make sure this summer I posted more frequently!
In June I fought to post nearly every other day, and I was successful! I put a lot of time and effort into my blog, and it paid off. I continued to get views that grew into subscribers and grew into comments and returning readers.
I am still so in shock that people actually read what I put on here!
And, biggest news so far, I got my first sponsored post in July! I was able to write a post true to myself, true to my audience, and ironically something that I had on my “to write about” list for a while.. and got paid for it!
This sponsored post quickly snowballed into others and now I am happy to say that this blog has successfully paid off my cell phone, my Disneyland annual pass, and my textbooks for this semester! When I started Dani Dearest I never thought that I would get to this point so I am crazy proud!
In the beginning August I began to pay more attention to my statistics and realized that I was reaching nearly 80,000 pageviews each month! By the end of August that had upped to 100,000!
I hosted my first giveaway which was for a Lenovo speaker, continued to receive some sponsored posts and requests from brands, and collaborated with a couple bloggers on some posts.
I also continued to keep up my pace of posting every other day.
Well, here we are again. It’s strange to think that all that has happened in one year, isn’t it? Wow.
