I need to start this off with a confession: I am currently devouring this product with a spoon as I type this.
I guess I should also start with another confession: I am addicted to Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. To anyone who knows me, this is not a surprise. They are my favorite candy of all time.
To my roommates who are reading this right now: thank you for surprising me with random Reese’s when I’m sad. To the girl who works at the snack shack in my dorm building: I’m sorry for buying 40 Reese’s from you during tech week and making you count all of them. To Influenster: Thank you for somehow finding the perfect product for me to test out.
That’s right, I finally got my hands on a jar of some of the new Reese’s Spreads. This product is fairly new but for some reason, even though I have seen it on the shelf in stores, I have not yet tried it. I’ll be honest, I was worried that it just would not be able to stand up to the bar I have set for chocolate spreads, thanks to Nutella.
I’m the type of person that rarely actually uses my Nutella to spread on things (except for the occasional piece of bread or toast) and I just usually eat it straight from the jar with a spoon.
When I got my jar of Reese’s Spreads, the packaging and the jar itself both encourage you to spread the serving on something. Unfortunately I did not have any fruit or bread in my room at the time, so I decided to dive right in with a spoon.
Ew. That’s right, I didn’t like it. The smell was overwhelmingly peanut butter and that turned me off right away. The taste was.. off. I didn’t enjoy it.
I forced myself to take another bite. Suddenly, it grew on me. I slowly became acclimated to the taste the more I ate and then I began to fall in love with it.
The best way that I can describe the taste is, exactly like a Reese’s Peanut butter cup, except crushed up and blended.
Since then, I’ve spread the mixture on pieces of bread for breakfast a couple of times and I have to say I completely understand why they stress that it is a spread. It tastes three times better when spread on something, and it spreads much more smoothly and easily than Nutella does.
If you enjoy Nutella, or Reese’s, I completely suggest that you check this out. I know I will definitely be buying myself another jar of this soon… especially since I ran out while writing this.
(Another apology to my roommates since we just had this conversation. Me: “Oh I can buy a pack of 8 jars for only $27!” Roommates: “Oh no.” “Oh dear.”)
Have you tried Reese’s Spreads before? What do you think of it? What do you like to spread on your bread or fruit?
I received this product from Influenster for testing purposes. All opinions are 100% my own.
