4 things that will help you get organized this summer!

I think I have a summer “off” switch. Do you know what I mean? During the school year, I keep track of every little thing I have going on. The second summer hits, I’m out. I have no routine and I lose all momentum. That makes it all the harder when September comes back and I need to get my game together again!

That’s why I’ve pulled together a few tips and tricks on how to organize your life over the summer. These tips will hopefully help both me (and you!) stay on-track and keep the chaos at bay over the summer months. This is what I’ll be doing this summer to stay organized. I hope it helps you learn how to get organized over the summer, too!

Organize your room.

I’ve lived in the same childhood bedroom since I was ten years old. That’s eleven years’ worth of stuff: books, papers, makeup, and plain old junk that’s slowly been building up in my room. This summer, I am organizing my room by cleaning out, recycling, and donating the things I don’t need. My main goals are an organized desk, dresser, and closet, all of which will set me up for a cleaner, calmer, and less hectic school year.

Organize your routine.

I’m a dreamer. I have goals all over the place, from waking up earlier to finding a fulfilling career. Summer is the perfect time to nail down all all the smaller goals – like tracking food, working out, waking up earlier, and practicing mindfulness – that often get overlooked once the school year starts. Make the most out of your unscheduled time by creating routines that will keep your life more manageable, healthy, and happy when school comes around again.

Organize your schedule.

I can’t be the only one who has a tendency to take on way too much. This summer, I’m setting aside some time to plan for next year, make a schedule that works for me, and ensure that it’s something I can keep up when school starts again. Think about the commitments that meant the most to you last year, and see how you can schedule them in a way that still leaves you time for self-care and schoolwork. Hopefully, planning it out now will keep you from taking on way too much when school resumes.

Organize your mind.

Organize, simplify, clear out – whatever you want to call it. One of the best ways to keep your life manageable and happy is to take care of yourself! This summer, try starting some practices like mindfulness, meditation, yoga, or (if you’re religious) prayer, to help you keep a calm and clear mind that will last you into the school months. I’ll be focusing on yoga and mindfulness to try to keep my mind clear.

Implementing these tips will hopefully help you keep your life manageable and organized over the summer, and help you prepare for a rich and fulfilling school year!

    YES! I keep telling myself I’m going to get organized this summer but I’ve got the procrastinating monkey on my back. Plus I REALLY want to try yoga in the hopes that it will kick the procrastinating monkey’s butt. 🙂

    I’m the same way! This summer I’m trying to stay on track with my sleep schedule so it’s not such a struggle when I need to start waking up early again and I’m trying to start and maintain some more healthy eating habits, like drinking more water!

      Keeping my sleep schedule on track over the Summer is something I always struggle with! luckily (and unluckily!) this Summer I’m working a job that has hours around my normal class hours so I have to get up consistently early everyday. So that works!

    Love this! Summer is such a great time to reset and get ready for the next year. I love the note on organizing your mind – this is something that I always forget to do, but taking even 10 minutes out of your day is so important. I recently discovered this app called Headspace that’s all about 10 minutes of mindfulness. Check it out!
