5 Ways to Beat Summer Boredom

Ah, summer. The weather gets warmer, the beaches get crowded, and students get.. bored.

No matter if you successfully grabbed your dream internship this summer or you’re excited to relax around the house, you’re still bound to have a lot more time on your hands this season than you would when you’re at school.

Once you get tired of the regular going to the pool, hitting the beach, hanging out with old friends, and sleeping in what is there left to do?

I’ve found a solution, or 5 to be exact, and compiled them in a list here. So here you go, 5 inexpensive (or free!) ways to beat summer boredom. Let me know what is your favorite way in the comments!

1. Reading

Summer is the perfect time to pick up on some hobbies that you don’t have as much time to do during the school year. For me, reading is just that. I’m super excited to dive into my Summer Reading List and finally get to some of the books that I’ve been wanting to read for a while now!

2. Yoga

Breathe the summer air in. Breathe the school year out.

No better way to unwind than to relax your body and mind with some yoga. Check online to see when your local gym offers yoga classes or go solo with a video online guiding you through.

Are you a Yoga newbie? I recommend that you check out this video series online called 30 Days of Yoga by Yoga with Adriene. Listening to her is so peaceful, she’s totally relatable and does a great job of explaining the terms for beginners without making you feel stupid. Seriously, check her out.

3. Play Free Games and Apps

Amazon on Phone

I’ll admit it, I’m on my phone a ton. Normally I check social media, but I get tired of closing and re-opening the apps to only end up seeing the same Instagram posts in a row. Amazon came out with this cool app called Amazon Underground that helps to keep me entertained.

Amazon Underground is different than the Amazon Shopping app because it includes additional features like Amazon Video and 100% free apps and games. Yeah, you read that right, 100% free. Even the in-app purchases are free: no more need to buy ‘energy’ or do-overs, lives, levels, upgrades, or anything. It’s all free. I absolutely hate when I’m in the middle of a game and the only way to continue is if I purchase the next level: Amazon Underground is the perfect solution for that.

You can download the Amazon Underground app from your Android smartphone by going here (sorry iPhone users!), or if you’re on your computer you can go to the site here and follow the instructions.

4. Blogging

Summer is also the perfect time to start up a new hobby that you’ve been interested in but never had the time to commit to: like blogging.

Blogging has not only been a great hobby for me, but it has opened so many doors for my future and I’ve even made quite a profit off of it. Interested in starting your own blog? There are a ton of free ways to do this so you don’t have to worry about putting any investment in until you’re sure you’re going to commit to it. 5. Cooking

I don’t know about you, but my Facebook newsfeed has been full to the brim with cooking tutorial videos lately. They all look so delicious! I find myself constantly sending them to my boyfriend saying “omg let’s make this!!”

I’ll tell you a secret friends: They are as delicious as they look.

We’ve successfully made some of my favorite foods that I haven’t been able to eat since I was 12, due to me needing to become gluten-free. Everything from churros to mozzarella sticks with the simple trick of replacing the flour in the recipe with gluten-free flour, and I love it all.

Consider taking up cooking this summer as a great way to have fun, save money, and eat healthier. You might just fall in love!
