My word for this year is establish.
I’ve never been a big new year’s resolution or “word” person… but my workplace started doing an exercise challenging each employee to choose their word/mantra to describe their year, and after choosing mine it really spoke to me. So I wanted to share it with you.
Establish (verb) – to set up on a firm or permanent basis
How is establish going to be reflected into my life in 2020?
In my career:
2020 is a unique year for my career. If you’ve been following along on my podcast, The Quarter Life Crisis Club, you know that I have had a series of temporary roles and have been searching for a permanent job for a while.
Very soon I’ll be starting a new “permanent” job, with one of my dream companies.
This is the first time that I have been able to start a job without instantly looking at what’s next. Without having an “end date” of a contract ending looming near, causing me to hold the job at arms length while applying to others.
This is the first time that I can plant myself. Focus on growing and becoming an expert in my work, grow roots, get comfortable, and establish.
In my blog:
Dani Dearest is still going through a time of transitioning from college life to post-grad life, as I am as well. In 2020 I will officially be 2 years out of college, and will have 2 years of “real world” experience to share on Dani Dearest.
2020 is the perfect time to establish the more “adult” voice of Dani Dearest.
In my health:
The end of 2019 (and the beginning of 2020 to be honest) has been hard on my health. While some of that I can’t control, it’s time to better handle what I can control.
Over the last couple of years I have founded healthy habits such as meal prepping, cleaning, eating healthy-ish, and taking care of my skin. In 2020, it’s time to lean into those and expand more.
It’s time to establish a simple, easy, and habitual way to move frequently. When commuting 3 hours a day and sitting at a desk all day, my body really takes a toll. In 2020 I need to figure out some easy and repeatable way that I can be active… no matter how small.
In 2020, I’ll be established.
