From listening to music geared toward helping me focus and remember study material to blasting upbeat tunes while I am cleaning my dorm room or driving to work to keep me happy and anxiety free.

I absolutely love being able to use a portable Bluetooth speaker to fill my life with music wherever I go. During my first year of college my roommates and I even created a dorm room playlist where we combined all of our music tastes and had it playing constantly to fuel our lives.

Since music is such an instrumental part of my everyday, I wanted to share with you some of my favorite tunes for every moment. Here is some great music that motivates, inspires, and improves productivity in the form of a playlist so you can try them out directly from this page!

Getting Ready

Getting ReadyGetting hyped up is an essential part of getting ready for any occasion. From picking out an outfit and taking a shower to putting on your makeup and pouring yourself a cup of coffee, it’s easy to get overwhelmed with all that you have ahead of you.

To me, music helps soothe my mind and lift my mood. There’s nothing better than listening to a motivational and uplifting song while trying to get the perfect blended smoky eye before a night out with your friends. Never fails to put a smile on my face!

DrivingI used to suffer from pretty severe driving anxiety. I still struggle with it occasionally, but I have worked hard to overcome it and find some simple ways to calm my nerves while behind the wheel.

One of these ways is driving with my windows all rolled down halfway.

The other way is to listen to upbeat and catchy music from my favorite playlists. This music helps to uplift my mood as well as getting me singing and focusing on the song instead of the potential danger of driving a car. Plus, they’re always fun to sing along to when I’m driving my friends around town!

Working Out

WorkoutWorking out and music has some crazy cool connections. Music provides a good motivating distraction that can benefit athletic performance by up to 15% and when you’re listening to faster music it can often make you work harder. On top of that, when the song has a connection to a specific memory or emotion that can really help boost your motivation and get you in the zone.
There’s a lot more science behind the way that music effects the brain, especially when working out. It’s difficult to deny that even without all that scientific information you definitely feel the difference.

Listening to music is known for combating the effects of stress and anxiety while raising the ability to complete tasks, which is ideal when you’re studying or at work.

However when you’re listening to music with lyrics, no matter if you know it so well you could sing along in your sleep, it can actually harm your productivity more than it helps.

I have found that what works best for me is listening to classical instrumental versions of some of my favorite songs, or even my favorite movie soundtracks. This gives me some great background music to fuel my productivity without deterring my focus.

CleaningCleaning, organizing, cooking… if you’re like me those words give you seriously mixed emotions. I love the feeling of a clean house, prepared meals, having a task list all checked off, and a desk that is spic-and-span. I just don’t want to actually have to do any of it.

This is where music becomes my biggest tool, motivation and inspiration. I just set up my playlist and speaker in a room central to where I will be doing most of my work, and let the beats work their magic. The music is key to distracting myself, letting me forget that I have 3 loads of laundry left to do, while transporting me to another place where I’m not scrubbing down my counters.

I like to pepper in my cleaning playlist with the occasional more mellow song to help me calm down and get in the zone. Pair this with some tunes that make me want to sing along and dance around and you’ve got the perfect equation for a great motivational tool.

 My Speaker of Choice

GiveawayI recently got my hands on the Lenovo™ 500 Bluetooth® Speaker, and I have to admit that I love it. This speaker is super light, weighing only 1.6 pounds, pretty small, and has a rechargeable battery that lasts about 4 hours which makes it really portable. The sound quality is impressive with a 270-degree sound experience and powerful volume levels, which makes the side of me that loves blasting music as loud as it can go really happy.

Another thing that I really enjoy about this speaker is how it has a built in microphone so that when it is connected to your phone and you get a phone call it quickly becomes a speakerphone for your call.

The speaker can connect to anything from your phone to your laptop as long as it has Bluetooth or NFC capabilities and turn it into a powerful motivational tool.

Win it!

In fact, I think it’s so cool that I’ve paired up with Lenovo to provide one of my amazing readers (that’s you!) with their very own Lenovo™ 500 Bluetooth® Speaker!

Giveaway ends Saturday August 15th at 11:59PM and the winner will be notified by Monday August 17th!

Music is a huge part of my life!
When I was younger, I had a limited at best repertoire of music that I liked – I would just pick and choose from my dad’s collection and burn them onto CDS! I used to listen to these CDs at my kitchen table to help me stay motivated with my schoolwork.
Now my boyfriend is craazy about music in all forms and genres. In his car I’ve listened to everything from ambient music (which I liked) to noise music (EEEEEEK) and discovered one of my favorite genres: dream pop.
Because of his wide breadth of music knowledge, I’ve been able to better understand my own personal tastes. I enjoy pop music to get me out of bed, and blare it in the bathroom while I shower. I love soundtracks for studying and dream pop or shoegaze for the evening.
I would use this speaker with my phone at my study space (which is in an attic, by the way, meaning I could really put the volume to the test! 😉 ) to keep me company through the long lonely nights of my undergrad!
I love reading your posts by the way; your blog is gorgeous and so inspiring!

I’ve never heard of dreampop or shoegaze, so thanks for introducing me to something new!
I completely agree with needing music to motivate to get out of the bed and shower in the morning. Since I got this Lenovo speaker I’ve been using it when I shower and it is SO handy to keep my mood up!

You study in an attic? That sounds so cute and cozy, I’m jealous!

Glad you like the blog, thank you so much! Stop by more often 🙂

I already do many of these things, and I love having music be a huge part of my life! The movie soundtracks for studying sound like a great idea! I feel like some might even be great for working out 😊

Hi Dani! As an incoming college freshman at USC, I know I’ll need music playing in the background as I study, when I’m having a good conversation with some girlfriends in my suite, or when I just want to get super silly and just jam out. I love music because it literally makes everything fun, and I also have some anxiety troubles when it comes to school (and being in a new environment will worsen that!) and when playing music ALWAYS helps me out with that. Thank you so much for this giveaway and I love your blog!

    • August 9, 2015 at 10:59 pm

Hi Josie! Thanks so much for stopping by!
USC is a fantastic school, congrats on being accepted there. Having music playing while having friends over in your suite is definitely one of the best things to do, I always did that last year so great idea!
I have anxiety troubles as well, and I have to agree that music definitely helps, as I mentioned above I use it for my driving anxiety specifically.
You are so welcome, I hope to see more of you 🙂

Music has always been a major part of my life, from sitting alone in my room listening to the major pop artists when i was 6, to finding my parents old CDS from ABBA, Madona, Queen, and many more, these artists expanded my love for music into different genres and time periods. Music has helped me through the hardest parts of my life; family drama, breakups, stress, and insecurities, as well as being a part of the positive moments. I plan to continue to enjoy music, the new and the old, as I begin my University career, music will continue to keep me level and relaxed as well as being a topic of discussion for all the new faces i come to meet. Ps. Dani, i found your blog through Pintrest and have been using all of your organizational tips and college advice as i prepare for school, thank you so much for all the help! I love your blog!

    • August 9, 2015 at 10:52 pm

I love this outlook! My parent’s old CD’s and even records had a HUGE part in forming my love for music growing up. Classic rock (my dad) and country (my mom) continue to be two of my favorite genres. I’ve found that I love every genre of music, and I completely connect that to my upbringing!

So glad you found my blog! I hope I continue to motivate you throughout your college career and that I see more of you around soon 🙂 Stop by again! Love hearing from you.

I hate silence, so I’m constantly listening to something! I don’t really have a preference for genre, and I’ll listen to just about anything:)

  • August 14, 2015 at 8:52 am

i listen to music all the time. more than i watch TV! I always have my phone in my back pocket playing pandora radio. I would use this speaker outside while I’m working in the yard!

  • August 15, 2015 at 8:22 am

Music gets me out of my own head. That’s always a good thing! I would use this in my car so I could stream from my phone plus have hands free conversations.
