This post is brought to you by Post-it® Brand, thank you for supporting the brands that make Dani Dearest happen!
When I was in college I juggled multiple jobs, a full-time class schedule, many club commitments, a personal life, and my blog all at the same time. I had to get creative with how I organized all of these commitments in order to stay afloat and reach all of my deadlines.
Now, as a year post-grad, I’m able to reflect back on what I did to juggle work and school at the same time and acknowledge what worked, what didn’t, and what I would do differently!
Today I’m partnering with Post-it® Brand for back to school season to share my top tips for balancing work and school!
Choose a Flexible Job
If possible, choose a job during your time in college that understands that you are a college student and is willing to be flexible around your class schedule. Jobs in food service and retail tend to be great options to schedule work shifts around classes. Other great flexible jobs include starting your own blog, working for a ride-share service, a food delivery service, or finding remote positions online.
Rely on a Great Paper Planner
If you’ve been around this blog for a while, you know that I am a huge fan of a good planner! Choosing a planner to fit your needs is a science, so don’t be afraid to try a few different ones with different layouts before you decide what works for you.
Color coding by using Post-it® Flags and colorful Post-it® Notes in your planner can help to personalize it and organize it to fit your needs. Also, how cute are the Post-it® Emoji Notes?!
Digital Calendar as Portable Backup
Using a digital calendar such as iCal or Google Calendar is a great way to quickly reference important appointments and commitments on the go!
Carefully Plan Your Class Schedule
When it comes to time to choose your classes, if you know that you are going to be working next semester, try to arrange your class schedule so that you have large gaps either before, after, or in-between classes. These gaps will allow you to take shifts at work and give yourself time to study! Even better, if you’re able to take one or two days off from classes each week then you will have more time to offer to your employer to take up shifts.
A weekly calendar, like the Post-it® Keyboard Calendar Notes (pictured above!) from Post-it® Brand, is a great way to layout your time commitments and see what gaps you have available to sign up for work shifts.
Take Time to Rest & Recharge
At the end of the day, put yourself first. Be careful to not put too much on your plate and end up burning out. Schedule in time to study, socialize, and relax.
Use a Wall Calendar to Juggle Multiple Commitments
Using a wall calendar like the Post-it® Super Sticky Full Stick Notes Weekly Wall Calendar from Post-it® Brand is a great way to look at all of your commitments for the week at a glance. By laying out all of your appointments, classes, club meetings, school work deadlines, and personal plans all in one place it will help you to stay on top of your game and not miss anything important!
Pro tip: Make sure to color code! I love to choose 1 color for each club/job, 1 for my personal life, and 1 for each class. This calendar comes with a selection of perfectly fitting Post-it® Super Sticky Notes in a variety of colors to make it that much easier!

I love my paper planner too. I worked two jobs on top of taking 18 credit hours each semester during my junior year and it was a MUST to stay organized!
I’m a big digital gal, but the new planner I got is my new obsession! Great post.
Love your scheduling tip. I loved being able to not schedule a class on Fridays so I had an extra “weekend day” to work and study!

Yes to paper planners. They’re my favorite and so much better when you want to stay organized while also decreasing screen time.
Having a great planner and taking time to actually plan weekly helped me so much! Thanks for sharing doll 🙂

Such great tips! I actually use many of them as well. I too, have a paper planner, and a digital one for back up, when I don’t have my paper one. I haven’t thought about having a calendar on the wall, I will definitly try it out!
